OBJECTIVES:
Plan Period 1987 - 1992
- To identify and conduct basic research on the biology and ecology of the major mites pests of corps and stored grains in different regions of the country, which should form the basis for development of management practices.
- To develop an IPM approach to solve the mite pest problems.
- To accumulate knowledge about the key biotic agents (mostly predators) and to develop technology for their utilisation as an important component of any IPM strategy.
- To conduct multilocational survey to explore the plant mite fauna of the country.
- To develop and disseminated a new control strategy among the farming community by developing linkages with extension agencies.
Plan Period 1992 - 1997
- To conduct basic and strategic research on biology and ecology of major mite pests and factors responsible for their resurgence.
- To conduct multilocational programmes on survey and management of mite pests.
- To identify and develop technology for utilisation of natural enemies in biocontrol of mite pests.
- To disseminate information on acarines, provide training and identification services.
Plan Period 1997 - 2002
- To conduct basic and strategic research on biology and ecology of major mite pests of crops.
- To conduct multilocational programmes on survey and management of mite pests of crops.
- To identify and develop technology for utilisation of natural enemies in biocontrol of mite pests of crops.
- To disseminate information on acarines, provide training and identification services.
- To conduct studies on mite pests of crops of local/regional importance.
